The Center for Applied Mathematics regularly supports Mathematics Department faculty and graduate student travel to conferences. All applications must be made at least 1 month before the conference (longer for international travel). Awards may be used for travel, lodging, and registration fees.
The following policies apply.
- Graduate students will be supported up to $700 per conference and at most $1,400 for the duration of their studies.
- Faculty will receive up to $900 in support in any 24-month period.
- Priority will be given to applicants who are confirmed speakers at their conference.
- To be eligible for support, a graduate student needs to have a thesis advisor, a PhD committee, and have begun work on a problem related to the conference they wish to attend.
- Graduate students will only be funded if their math department website would favorably incline a conference organizer to invite them to their conference. For example, it should have a photo and a summary of their research and why it is of interest. If they intend to seek employment during JMM or another meeting, then it should also contain a CV and teaching statement.
